Hello, my name is Jonathon. This is my first attempt at growing bananas in Washington state. I have lived a few years in Nicaragua and my wife has a plantation there witch has bananas, plantains, ginello, cacao, papaya...
I was given 2 starts (banana- don't know what kind) from a nursery. It is hot here all summer. I am hoping to harvest fruit before the weather gets cold again. In nicaragua a start like mine would take seven months to harvest but is feeding from the older mother plant. I hope they do well and are edible. My ph is 6.3 and have ade very good soil. The warm weather is off to a slow start... only time will tell.

Welcome from Florida. Good luck with your plans and keep all posted. Find a banana that will thrive in your zone and take care of it. Plenty of info here. Good growing.

Welcome! If you post some pictures someone might be able to tell if they're edible.

Welcome! I'm in Washington as well. In the northwest your chances are, the banana is just the ornamental Basjoo or Sikkimensis, but, who knows, it could be a Dwarf Cavendish or something similar.

Either way I hope you have great luck with them, however as a reminder, you're gonna have to overwinter it in order to get fruit. Very few varieties fruit in the short season we have, so, most take 2-4 years.

Welcome to the forum. Theres a Banana ID section here and somebody will help find out what your banana trees are if you post pictures. =) The fastest banana tree that makes edible fruit is the Velutina pink banana tree and thats what I grow. the bananas are small and pink and have big seeds but they are really sweet. Good luck!
