Dear Friends of the Banana org.,
My name is Roy Markes and I live in the Island of Curacao of the north coast of Venezuela between the sister Islands of Aruba and Bonaire.

My aim is to start with a banana platation on the Island and I need all the help I can get from you guys.
I have a property of 38.400 sq. meters. and I want to get started. I do not have any experience in this field, but since I am retired I would like to take this challenge because I do like to grow bananas since I have a couple of those plants in my garden
Please let me know what I must do.
Regards,
Roy Markes

Roy,

As you have a small plot, and, banannas are very competative on the market, you might be well advised to find a crop that is of high value on your island, and see if you can grow it. Are banannas expensive there?...If not, look for an exotic like Jackfruit, or Real Lemon, etc...

From what I understand, your island is known for very poor soil, so, anything you plant needs the additional cost of soil ammendments added into the equation.

I'm retired in Mexico on 7,500 M trying to solve the same puzzle

Roy, That is good advise from John. If you read the posts in the many areas of growing bananas you will find much of the information you are looking for. There is a listing for anything pertaining to bananas and others for many different plants. Good luck with your project and welcome to the org.

Roy, I can help. Have consulted on crops in Bonaire. Aloe is the traditional crop. That aint bananas. Get some Raja Puri and Dwarf Red to start. Find more from godelights@aol.com.
