It is June 4th 2012 and this is my newest opening bloom. Having the bloom this early means the fruit can ripen on the plant if I wish. Nothing says tropical like going out and picking your own Banana for breakfast. This year I owe it all to Mother Nature as I did not do any Winter prep. Thankfully we had an extremely mild winter. If it were not for two 31 degree nights and a couple of frost events I would have ripe bananas hanging now. That’s how mild it was!

I thought it was an Orinoco but I think I looks a little different. The fruit looks closer together than my other blooms. That may be since I've never had a bloom this low that I could see at this angle!

The center mat is the one I’m writing about. These two Orinoco mats are overshadowing my Meyer Lemon that has fruit for the first year too!

This view shows the blooms first hand.

This is Orinoco right? I'll try to post some updates.

Darkman, you have a hand full of aces this year. I look forward to pictures and your taste testing.

I have a Meyer's Lemon too. Once they start producing they will yield a bunch of fruit in just a couple of years. I got almost 300 last year. Makes the best lemonade in the world.

Looks like Orinoco to me. How many blooms do you have now? Man I wished I had been home to stop the yard guy from cutting my stuff to the ground.

I believe you are right. I took a liitle more time and looked from the bottom up and it looks like Orinoco. That's great too. I really liked the ones I ate last year and more this year is fine.

I'm really pumped by the Goldfinger. I think it may be my favorite. I have another mat that I think should produce a bloom this year and hopefully soon.

I have quite a few Meyer Lemons fruit on now and I am growing them mostly for the Lemonade. I hope it's as good as everyones says.

Hey Bo,

Don't give up as large as your mats are you may be surprised and get a bloom this year.

BUT

if not you can help me sample mine since you'll be back before they get ripe.

I have two Orinoco blooms with fruit, one that will open tomorrow (Ice Cream/Tall Namwah) and the Goldfinger is just pushing out the top.

I've already had three that I lost to frost early this year. I have five to nine P-stems that I believe will push a bloom soon too. Bo these bananas are all mostly Grand-Bananas off your mats from July 2010!

Remember this

and I think we even piled more on top. Thanks

PS I'm returning the generosity by giving out eight pups and plants this spring.

Yes sir Charles, maybe, Terry, TJ, Amanda, Phillip, Russell, and your friend from Pensacola can come over for a dig when I get back home. Or we can come to your place, he he.

I'm real curious to see how much your plants have come back. Our temps have already been in the 90's many days and we've had some decent rain although I don't think your yard will suffer from lack of water. Your "Jungle" should be looking good when you get here. We can try to get everyone together here, there, somewhere!
