Hello everyone,
I just purchased an Ice Cream banana TC. It's a healthy plant for sure, but I've been reading on different forums here that there's actually the "real" and "pseudo" Ice Cream. It's supposed to be the real deal as the nursery also sells Dwarf Namwah amongst many other varieties. However, I've noticed that while the leaf petioles are closed and the entire leaf is a blueish green color (no pink midribs yet just green), the plant has peachy orange petioles and a red-pink rim running around the edge of the leaf. The pseudo stem, however, appears to be the same blue-green color as the leaves. Also, the plant is very waxy. It seems to have some of the characteristics of both the real and pseudo. My question is, does the real Ice Cream have any pink, orange or red on it anywhere? And if not, would this plant be some kind of Pisang Awak variety like a Tall Namwah? Thanks for your help!

Fake Ice Cream has pink on the leaf margins and petioles. The real one is supposed to be completely green. Sounds like you have the fake one, but it's still a great plant. The fake one is in the Pisang Awak subgroup, which is notorious for making really good tasting bananas :ha:

My ice cream banana has no red or pink at all on it. Its a lightish green color with VERY powdery undersides and of course the closed leaf petioles.
Im sure whatever you have is a nice one though!
