Tomato growing wasn't enough for you? :ha: :2738:

Did we also loose a moderator or just gain one?

Tomatoes only keep me busy time. I mostly wanted to help eliminate spammers. Wonder if Monsanto makes a product that can help? ;)

So far I've deleted about 20 spam messages and banned 5 spammers.

I ask that folks not reply or make reference to spam messages as that takes a lot more work to clean up the thread. Just report it (click on the triangle image on the left side of the post) and I'll try to take care of it. If I'm busy and miss it, send me a PM. Thanks.

Note: something about this change to moderator seems to have messed up my signature line. I hadn't made any change to my signature line for about a month and it worked fine earlier this morning.

EDIT: The temporary problem with my weather banner had nothing to do with the code, etc. Jarred accidentally turned off HTML on my signature permissions. I figured it how and he corrected it. Mystery solved! :)

It looks like the Tog cigar banana is breaking up the code. Try moving down a line.

I changed that and it was still a problem. Your Tog banana is placed just like mine.

remove at the end: "< / a >"

I tried that as well and it's still broken.

I didn't change anything and it had worked fine at 7-7:30 this morning when I first came on but after my status got changed to moderator my sig line got messed up. Weird.

If I copy and paste your sig code it works fine. Just in case you want to know what your weather is just look here. :ha:

LOL, great minds think alike! I had also tried using your code and it doesn't display properly for my signature line. Pretty strange, but my change to moderator status seems to have broke something!

Banned another spam bum tonight and deleted his 17 spam messages. Thanks to the three folks that reported them. Hope nobody here really needed to buy hair extensions from him. ;)

Note: if you report a post you don't need to report every single post the guy has made as I'll look at his other posts anyways. It's pretty easy just to delete them all at once when viewing all of them since we can see a summary of the message, etc. It takes a bit more work to ban the user but not much. Please let me know if you see any spam messages in the galleries as I'm not able to view posts there very easily.

A spammer joins and pays the membership fee to post a few ads that quickly get deleted.

WHY ?

Some people had complained about the fee and I think there may have been a problem with the payment system so Jarred discontinued the fee on 4/13/2012 and warned us that there would be increased spam. It was really bad initially but have only had about 1 spammer a week since then. When the fee was discontinued the storage space for photo galleries was also reduced so most old-timers were then unable to upload more photos to their galleries. Everything needed to run the site has a cost of some sort and I'm thankful that it exists with so many great features.

Maybe Jarred can ad "Donate" option to the site, many forums have one like that. It could help to raise some funds for running the site.

Some fees are beneficial, 10 cents a week was not worth complaining about.
By eliminating the fee, the quality of the members may be diluted.
If more space is needed for photos, can a member simply open multiple accounts?

Well, it's a mixed bag. Some people just starting to acquire an interest for bananas might not be willing to pay the fee and I think it's good to have newbies around the forum to stimulate new interest even if they bring up subjects already covered in old posts. It was fun to see many of the new folks join after membership became free.

Opening multiple accounts is a violation of the forum rules and defeats the purpose of Jarred limiting gallery storage size. It's best to use a free photo hosting service such as photobucket if you need more space. I have been using my own web host to upload my photos.

Several years ago, when I first joined this forum, I wanted to make a donation. I had done it on a couple of other sites, and I thought that the information I was getting here was good, so I thought I'd contribute $25.00. When I asked about it, someone (I think it was Ron, The Flying Dutchman) directed me to the donations page. When I got there, I found a message something like, "We are currently not accepting donations. Save your money - buy more bananas."

Productive day. Tony (sunfish) reported a spam post and I deleted the post and banned the user. I then noticed the user had the same IP address as a prior user I had banned a couple of months ago. I found that 27 more users had been registered with the same IP address but not yet posted so I went and banned those users as well. Thanks for the quick head's up, Tony. These user IDs were found to be used on dozens of other forums so that the nature of the beast.
