Worlds largest Asparagus

Hehe, your place?

No I saw it while walking. That thing is bigger around than some of my large banana pseudo stems! The plants are enormous too, taller than me and I'm 6'2"

Here is another angle. The garage door on the left is a two car sized door and is about 7 feet tall. Seeing these plants up close is really cool!

Agave Salmiana I belive, beautifull!!!

Yeah I think you are correct.

They say on this site they only get 6 feet tall, wrong! These ones might be close to 9 feet. I'll keep track of it as it flowers and get some pics.

I brought my DSLR camera this day but forgot to take the battery out of the charger before leaving home :o so here is another phone picture. I took this to show the true massive scale of this thing! More next week as I only work in that area Mon through Wednesdays. I'll try to get some photos of the actual flowers.

I've seen them in a more wild setting along PCH but never in someones residential garden. I'm sure there are more people growing them but I just haven't seen others yet. It is really a sight to see! I walk to it every time I'm in the area now.

There's this whole patch of agave plants on the road to my house. Last time I checked, there were two or three flower stalks coming up from them. They almost look like trees. I believe it's Agave americana.

I have a variegated Agave Americana. Might be Creme Brulee, not sure.

It seems like the biggest difference between Agave Salmiana and Agave Americana is the blade color and the spike size. Agave Salmiana has green blades and Amercana has more blue in them.

Getting more open. Looks like the top flowers are different than the lower ones.

Wow, agaves sure are impressive especially a giant one like A. Samiana! That flower inflorescence may be the tallest thing on the block when it's all finished!
Thanks for sharing!

I will not be able to update this thread because the whole flower stalk is gone! I have no idea what happened or why but it's gone. I hear rumor that there is another a few blocks away. I'll try to locate that one and get photos.

From what I read, a sweet drink from Agave salmiana is made. If you cut off the flower stalk down to the base before it fully matures. Create a hole in the plant, collect sweet water like drink from the hole upto a few times a day. Believe it continues to produce the sweet drink for upto a month or so.
