Hello,

My name is Andreas, and for my final English project this year I am analyzing various Internet communities, one of which is Bananas.org.

In order to successfully complete this project, I am reaching out to the Bananas.org community. The link below takes you to a Survey that I have put together.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEJzSzR3NGZkNWp2SFJ2VEpocWhiZEE6MQ#gid=0

Results and a complete analysis will be available on our project website in the coming weeks:
Home - The Internet Experiment (http://theinternetexperiment.webs.com/)

The more data I obtain, the better our results and analysis will become. I feel this will be very interesting to many of the members on this community.

Thanks! :D

I've only gotten one completed survey so far...I just want to remind everyone that I'm going to be graded on this.

I'll do it but I'm curious why you chose this message board.

It's because its a community that I know well. We are also surveying a community that my partner in this project is very familiar with. I figured that if we were more familiar with the communities we would be able to evaluate them better. Also, if we just signed up and posted this survey, people would think its just spam.

I'll do it too but is it anonymous?

Done, not anonymously. Good luck on your final!

Which came first, bananas or the survey?

It seems like a bit of an unusual assignment for an English class. Seems like something I would have done in a college psychology course. Are we going to see the results?

It's unusual because we were allowed to decide what we were going to do for the project. The theme of the project that we were supposed to work around was "Communities: Supportive or Stifling?" Out of all of the ideas for a project that me and my partner came up with, this one was the clear winner. And yes, within a few weeks the results will be posted here:

Thanks for sharing your report. Did you receive a grade on it yet?

High school was a long time ago for me but I don't recall ever doing any sort of special project like this. Good to see it going on. My son also had to do a proteus for eighth grade which was a great experience for him.

It's not actually due until Wednesday, so no grade yet. I sort of explained why we did this project in the About Us section of the website. We go to a small charter high school, and the learning there is project-based. Our teacher gave us a project to do instead of a final exam, which is great, because I have lots of studying to do. Finals start Wednesday! :ha:

I hope you had enough samples to derive an accurate assessment. Hope the grade is good, too. :08:

Why have the choice to be anonymous when no user ID's were revealed in the results?

caliboy1994
05-22-2012, 01:24 AM
It was going to be anonymous in the first place. I just thought that having people put their username in on the survey would help guard against spammers.

Wow, good analysis. Obviously many folks wrote much more and more cogently than I did. :ha:

Cool experiment and I agree with the results. I didnt know you started this thread but thats okay because I havent been at the forum enough to know anybody yet. This forum is way friendly and supportive. Its almost too friendly, lol. If peeps were this friendly at a gaming site I would think they were trolling. lol. Oh and congrats on the good grade. =D

Thanks! :) I agreed with the results as well. And trust me, I know how you feel about gaming forums. I've seen so much argument, spamming, and flaming on those that it's ridiculous.
