Howdy folks, I live in Luang Prabang in the Lao PDR (Laos). I am a very keen gardener and m overwhelmed by the variety of bananas that grow in peoples gardens here and also in the forest. There seem to be hundreds of varieties and dozens o species. I have an acre or so of land and i am starting an informal collection. I have degrees in biology and ecology and would like to contribute to knowledge of banana diversity in this region.... and consequently need your help as I am a nana novice.

Cheers

Greg

Hello,

We have as a member here Markku Hakkinen (http://www.bananas.org/member-markku-hakkinen.html), a renown researcher of banana species who travels often to Asia and the Pacific. It might be interesting for you to contact him and learn what publications he has or knows of for Laos, trip itineraries to Laos, etc.

Also, since ancient times peoples of Laos and the peninsula in general have been cultivating seedless varieties of bananas. These too are of great interest here.

Welcome :08:
