Will a bunch of cut of bananas which have been cut down at the stage when one has turned yellow , ripen more quickly if the bunch is covered and a red apple put under the cover in the banana bunch. I have been told that a red apple helps the bunch to ripen?
Have you noticed Cavindish take ages to turn yellow?

Yes it will; apple when rotting release gas called Ethene, and it will help rippen.
You can also cut down the bunche and do the same thang :D

I would avoid doing that. Far better to hang the bunch in the house and cut off fingers as they ripen gradually. Otherwise one day you find you have 85 ripe bananas to eat! And let them ripen completely. Try one and see to get a feel for this. I have found that different cultivars taste better at different stages and look different when full ripe. And thin skin ones will split. So ---- practice your bananas.

I agree with Dan, also if you able to carefully remove one or two or even three hands from the tree per week and store it to ripe..so that way you can enjoy your big banana bunch for a longer period of time. Also you can do this to different types of bananas..so you can compare their flavor and taste.

Thanks Dan, Further Q
So- hands all cut from the bunch will ripen more rapidly because they're cut- not so much because of the presence of a red apple?
Someone told me the other day that Gold Finger taste best when really fully ripe. We're just waiting for the first crop of Gold finger to mature. The bunches are very big and the fruit is tightly packed on the bunch. We are into winter here.So everything is slowing down.

I think you just made it with winter coming. You could cut off the hand with the most yellow and stick it in a paper bag with the apple. Should get you munching sooner by a few milliseconds. :ha::ha::ha:
You will soon be eating so many bananas......just don't go tripa on us.:08:
