First bunch I have been able to harvest since I started the mat in 2008. Frosts of '09 and '10 did in the mama with fruit.

Also first time I have tasted DB. What a rich flavor and long shelf life in frig. Still thinking of replacing it with a short cycle like VC.

It is entirely incredible that this banana took 4 years of time in Florida till
its harvest.
Knowing that there are different locations of the climate even in FLORIDA,
it still is a kind of surprise that this banana took that long time of harvest.
Even in my place of Z9, shorter than 3 years is enough for harvest.

Or do I misunderstand what you meant?

He had fruit on the tree and then had a freeze

I'm talking about the mat - not one specific pstem.

Had an '09 season bunch and another in 10'. The frosts hit and killed all leaves end of each year. Both immature bunches, with no chance of developing, were cut down and tossed. It sure hurt, let me tell ya.

And I had to do it again this year on the PK's first big bunch.

Simple fact of musa life ------ no leaves = no usable fruit.

Dan, I've got a pretty large mat of an unknown variety and one plant in the bunch flowered back around early March, I believe, and the bunch has quite a few fingers in it. The plant has no leaves but the adjoining plants are sending out leaves and I'm hoping they will provide some nourishment to the development of the fruit. Were your circumstances similar? Fingers crossed.....

Harvey ---------- I dont' have the room to grow out free form mats. I mat manage like comm'l guys and dig out all pups save 2. I leave the peepers.

This year though, I topped the pups for a few months to channel root juice to give the single mama a boost. Worked good on the PK. Went from 6.5 to 8 ft fast. Has a chance to give me filled in fruit before winter.
