I have had my Musa Basjoos in Richmond since 98'. They will usually get 15-20 ft. tall by the end of the growing season. My Basjoo didn't die back much at all this winter so hopefully they will be huge and bloom this summer. I just ordered some Mekong Giant bananas and I will see how they do here. They are supposed to arrive this week from Plant's Delight Nursery. Here are some pics from this year and some previous years:

Very nice, indeed! What USDA zone are you in, there?

I am in zone 7a but close to 7b. The area that I have them planted in has great soil and I think being planted close to the house helps during the winter. The large ones will usually die back to about 3 ft during a regular winter. This winter it didn't get below 25 but we didn't have that more than 2 nights in a row which helped keep the plants from freezing.
