Hi
I am new at this, posting and growing bananas. I live in Oviedo Florida. Better known as central Florida. I was born in Puerto Rico, and have been living in the states for half a century. My dad was fisherman and my grandma, could grow anything. She really had a green thumb. I have grown many things, but bananas and mangoes are my passion. Both are hard to grow and fruit in my area. People have done it and I want to know how ? :woohoonaner:

Hey, what's going on, que pasa? ;) Welcome to bananas.org!
Do you know what USDA hardiness zone you live in? How cold does it get during the winter? Many of us grow bananas in challenging conditions and I would think that you've got it easier than many.

Welcome to the nut (banana) house. Plenty of info here and many willing to help. We are in Citrus Springs and may be close to you. We are trying to grow a variety of banana to see what will make us happy. Most of the plants are grown for cow fodder and still some are here for the fruit. You will find one that grows and fruits for you, just have patience and it will happen.
Good luck

I believe that I am in zone 9, we catch about 20 to 40 days of cold weather a year.
I will grow bananas for many purposes. The leaves will be used for pastelles, the fruit for food, the plant for decorations and wind sheilds.

Looks like from your map location that you're in zone 9B and have a growing season of 292 days: Frost Dates > Goldenrod, Florida 32733 | Let's Grow Veggies! (http://letsgrowveggies.com/florida/32733/frost_dates/)
There are quite a few members not far from you and you might want to contact them to get an idea of what varieties have worked well for them.
