Cool site, also just joined Palmtalk and Palms north(since i tend to plant stuff thats not cold hardy). Bananas.org will complete my obsession since 50% of my yard will be exotic bananas. Any one know where I can get exotic bananas in Houston/new orleans/Pensacola?

Welcome from Florida. Nice spot if the bugs are friendly. Irrigation doesn't look like a problem. I quess that by this time next year the house will be well hidden, Good luck.

Welcome to the fourm! Love your house. No plants and good dirt, thats basically my dream yard because then you can do whatever you want. You have a great climate so I cant wait to see what kinds of interesting marginal palms and bananas that you plant!
I also really like pushing the limits of plants. Growing pretty much any tropical around my area is pushing the limits though! So far my biggest palm tree accomplishment was getting my Silver Saw Palmetto to survive the winter (also grow Butias, Livistona, trachys, and Sabals outdoors). As far as bananas go, getting my musa velutina to fruit was a big mildstone for me. Now Im just waiting for one of my edible bananas to fruit. Cant wait to see that day!!
Looking forward to seeing updates from your yard as you plant it out!

For you the three F's will come into play.
Do you get Frost?
Does it Freeze?
Will it Flood?
From the looks of things at least for now, shade loving plants are out unless you tuck them under the edge of your house on the North and maybe East side.
What body of water is that?
It looks like there is some sort of community across the marsh. Is the water brackish, fresh or salt?
Right now in the Pensacola store, HD is selling some ridiculusly priced palms. I bought Trachys that overall were over fifteen feet for $199.00. They also had some Phoenix Sylvestrus that had six feet of clear trunk for the same price. They had twelve foot tall quadruple trunk fishtails for $99.00. I almost bought one to treat as an annual!
Depending on the answers to the three original questions you can easily have an awesome place. Please keep posting the pics. Good luck!
Don't forget some citrus you should be able to squeeze one in maybe a cocktail so you can have several varieties.
