Ive grown it successfully in Ohio zone 6. I grew it from seed to flower then the freeze killed it. No pups are coming up yet so I'm not sure if it overwintered OK or not...here's a pick of the flower and fruit!

I'm in zone six also. I'm starting growing this banana this year... hopefully I can manage to get it to fruit this growing season and overwinter it too.

How big is it? It took a little over a year from sprout to flower for mine.

It's about one foot tall. I just got the live plant online, but I don't know if that was the best idea given that i don't always trust some people selling plants, but they seem to be healthy anyway.

I've got one that I got from Randy4UT. Mine almost died when I didn't mulch it three winters ago but I mulched it the last two winters and last winter was mild so it is coming up quite well now. Randy always gets his to bloom faster, so I might try watering and fertilizing mine a bit better. You can actually eat the fruit...if you really want to, but they are 90% seed. The winter before last I had Musa ornata overwinter and it bloomed sooner and was actually a bit prettier, but it is not as cold hardy and I'm sure my luck will run out on it. Musa velutina is pretty tried and true in zone 7 with mulch and is really very nice.
