A couple of years ago this was a hot item on banana forums. Did they not turn out well?

I know that the fruit don't take long to mature but I don't think they're very cold hardy.

This was a pretty cold winter for me with 35 nights of frost and one night down to 22F and all three of my large plants died and no signs of new pups emerging. This was never touted to be a cold hardy variety, just one that can fruit quickly. Best to start them in a greenhouse and plant them out in the spring.

Even in my more moderate environment with no frosts this winter, Veinte Cohol was the worst of all my in-ground bananas. It is still alive, but looks pretty pathetic. I don't think this one is going to make the cut compared to others that shrugged off winter, like Dwarf Namwah, Rajapuri, Dwarf Brazilian, Misi Luki Awak, etc.

I think this plant may stay pretty short so could be a good one for a pot and bring indoors in winter.

I'm in Tennessee and last year I overwintered in the garage. That year they died down to the corm, but came back up as pups in the spring. Same this winter, but so far no signs of life. I still have my fingers crossed, but I would definately not buy these again.

I'm in coastal Georgia and have had these plants for 2 winters. The first winter I lost one of two by leaving them in the ground (it was a cold winter for Savannah). This winter I brought 2 of my Veinte Cohol's inside and put them out this spring. I was checking the smaller one for tropical storm Beryl damage when I noticed what I think is a flag leaf.http://www.bananas.org/images/smilies/bananas/08.gif

The other one is taller and healthier looking. I'm hoping that it will send out a flower early this summer as well.

I have not had any bananas from them yet, but I hope this will be the year.

My VC has survived in the ground the last 2 winters. I has never thrived. Perhaps this year it will, but they are still small.
