Hello everyone! I am the guy who believes in folk tales, especially tales concerning banana growing. I heard the talk that in some villages in Brazil and Bolivia some banana growers grafted the banana plant so I decided to try it. We have discussed the subject of grafting bananas in this forum and we came to the conclusion that it is impossible to graft the banana plant. I, myself, was satisfied with the explanations given from experts in the field. But long before Steve Jobs said "Be hungry and be foolish!", I was foolish enough to continue my experiment in grafting the underground corms of the banana plants of different varieties, fully aware of the impossibility. My first aim was to grow edible bananas outdoors, without any winter protection in this cold country. I kept grafting the lady finger on the root stock musa basjoo, but the scion kept dying on me during the winter. The lady finger is not cold resistant so there was no way to keep it alive and I've had no intention of building a greenhouse ever. I've never had a guilty feeling for grafting bananas even if they ended in failure, as long as I didn't break any laws or hurt anyone. Well, this year things are different! My lady fingers have survived the cold winter. I think nature has rewarded my efforts, my edible bananas are very much alive. So, let's forget about the word "grafting" and see the result of my experiments by harvesting a nice bunch of fresh bananas. My only statement is: Banana plants are awesome! I will post some pictures of my banana plants in my fruit orchard here in Japan.
