Hey everyone, I'm new here. I got a Dwarf Cavendish around 3/21 and got it potted:

And today, it looks like this:

I'm assuming that as the plant grows the leaves will die off and need to be cut as I never see any fully grown with leaves all the way at the base. I'm excited to see if it will ever fruit, which may be hard seeing as I am in Montana so it will be overwintered inside. I may switch it to hydroponics once I'm done moving. Any advice on growing nanners will be much appreciated!

Steve

Hey Steve, I am no expert but once they start to wilt I usually let them dry a little first and then cut them off about two inches from the stem. Seems to work fine.

Where are you at in Montana? I am from Hamilton. My buddy grows several Ladyfingers in Post Falls Idaho and over winters them inside the house. He has had great luck. Best of luck to you!

I'm in Missoula. These past couple days that have been nice, I've had the nanner outside to get the sunlight, right now its hangin out on top of the fridge so my 2 year old doesnt get to it and dig it out of the pot.

Wow, small world. I have spent a lot of time in Zoo town. Your doing it right, keep increasing the amount of time you leave it outside and it will adjust well.

My Dwarf Cavendish should be here any day. I'm going to attempt growing it indoors only with sunlight through a picture window and supplement with grow lights.

hydroponically grown bananas can be very very rewarding, but also a challenge. You have to put more work in, but it yields bananas well.

Definitely moving to the hydroponics will be much more beneficial. As your location is over wintered so the only good way to grow will be the hydroponics and the best way too for the fruitful results.
