I salvaged a fairly large corm from a neighbor's lawn waste pile--about two thirds the size of a football. The original grow point of the corm was damaged, but the corm did produce two new banana plants. These plants have grown 4 feet in two months indoors. I know that banana plants must produce 50 to 80 leaves before they flower. Well suppose my mystery corm has already produced 30 leaves since it is fairly large, and suppose that my mystery banana must make 80 leaves before it flowers. Would one of my sprouts be considered a continuance of the previously grown plant and thus would only need to produce 50 more leaves to flower? Or is my leaf count reset to zero, and I therefore must wait for 80 leaves to grow before it flowers? The pictures are of the mystery corm and the resulting mystery plants.http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uzPx0UE5N6I/TvzwEazc_EI/AAAAAAAAADg/sYr-nBviYMM/s1600/2011-12-29%2B14.23.06-776802.jpghttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7nYT_YPA5Ow/TwiB2QzPHTI/AAAAAAAAASs/p9UsNWCYCuc/s1600/2012-01-07%2B11.41.44-792694.jpghttp://http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1SZW787G734/TwiB0SM2ujI/AAAAAAAAASE/ZnimkX2sbg0/s1600/2012-01-07%2B11.50.09-784949.jpghttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KBroJyMpTuY/Ty74RQWA49I/AAAAAAAAAwk/YyApAoRCJek/s1600/2012-02-05%2B16.16.06-777318.jpghttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Weu5o6OqURU/T3jp429A4gI/AAAAAAAABEk/hkQpBpHfa4M/s1600/PB130005%2B%2528Medium%2529.JPG

What's more important is the number of ideal growing days.

50-80 is way more leaves than my few plants that have flowered have produced. I bet they'll flower after producing a lot fewer leaves than that, but the pups do start at zero.

I live in Connecticut and have had bananas flower with maybe 40-45 (possibly less) leaves - although I dug up the corm and pstem and stored it in basement for winter and replanted in spring it took two seasons for Orinoco. Paul
