I recently purchased a few TC bananas and put them in the ground. The gran nain is about 6-8 inches and is already pushing a sucker.

Is this normal? Should i leave it? The sucker is less than 1".

You can see the sucker on the bottom left of the image below. The energy drink in the photo isn't fertilizer; It's only there for reference. :D

As someone that has planted thousands, I can say that it is completely normal.

Do you normally leave them?

That's a beautiful plant. Definitely looks happy.

Nice plant. That almost looks like a tiny leaf that has just begun to separate from the main p-stem. Are you sure that's a sucker? My plant didn't start suckering until it was much larger.

The few bananas I have gotten as small tc's have always sent up suckers very early.
Its something interesting, Ill have to look into it more.
Its a good thing though, you double or triple, quadruple, your new variety very quickly..
I wouldn't separate it anytime soon, let it grow much more...

It all depends on how early it starts. If I have already potted the plant, I'll leave it. If it exists in the liners I get from agristarts I'll break it off and make it a bonus plant. I frequently planted 74-76 plants out of a 72 ct. tray.

It's definitely a sucker. I checked today and it has a tiny new leaf in the middle.
