Has anyone else had success with a SDC left in ground over winter? Mine survived and has come back this year. I had read that it was hard for them to survive over winter in ground. Guess I got lucky this time!!

They are pretty difficult to get to survive so congrats! It was a good winter for most of the eastern US, so that probably helped a bit. I got cannas, purple hearts, and even wax begonias to survive outdoors this winter in the mild weather. Its always nice to get some surprises!

My SDC mat has been growing in one of the pool beds for 6 years. Doesn't get a lot of attention and has fruited once. Never died off and always sprouted new suckers.

Ok, maybe you can answer this question for me. It has like six little pups comimg up all from last year, but the original plant did not come back. I had this happen one time before before with a zebrina. So why does the original plant not come back? It never fruited.

Probably cause you are in zone 8. Mine saw 2 winters in a row with a few low 30's cold snaps, but gets protection from the pool enclosure. What happened to you was a yearly thing for me when I lived in NC. So best advice - let 2 or 3 pups grow out and remove the others when they get bigger. Also, get your hands on a few short cycle Viente Cohol and enjoy some fruit before winter.
