For as smart as they are the two I just dealt with must have been stupid. I was packing plantains tonight and I went inside to get my scale and when I came back there was a coon pulling culls out of my cull pile. I went back inside to get the .22 and went outside and the stupid thing was still there. So I shot it and put the gun back up and packed a box of plantains. I put the box in the garage and came out and there was another coon. So I put another round into the .22 and killed it. With the pineapples putting on fruit, I can't have those vermin around the house.

Agreement here. We had an infestation of rats and squirrels last year and they did a lot of damage to property and vegetation. When their nature enemies are gone they will take over. We have tried to capture and remove but they just kept coming back. Some of the neighbors were complaining of seeing coyotes and worried about what damage they would do. They consume a great of the critters that pester us dumb people. When the food is in balance they will dwindle also. Besides they, the coons, carry rabies and we don't want that. Good work Nick.

They weren't scared enough of me, and when that happens it is no good.

in the tropics, as well as up north, we have run an electric fence with much success...low enough for coons and higher wire for the bigger critters...a very simple solution if you understand the simplicity of an electric shock fence...and nobody dies!

The problem is the distances involved. For me we are talking about 0.5 miles and I think that amount of fencing will be costly. Also there are the squirrels and a lot of other things that will figure a way around an electric fence.
