Oh how I would love to. But there are maybe 3 or 4 fruiting plants in our Botanical garden's greenhouse. Along with a Dwarf Cavendish. I even saw a developing fruit once. Never tasted it raw though.

My friend Bryan at Montoso Gardens in Puerto Rico sells the fruits and said most customers are buying them just to sell the seeds on eBay. Good luck with those "small" trees!!! :)

I think most of the plants i grow indoors would prefer i move out there!! hahaha. The cacao loves the direct mister, and it seems to be getting correct amount of sunlight being off to the side of the window, rather than directly in front. But the older leaves start to discolor and eventually drop off, about the same rate new leaves grow ontop, but i'm not sure the life cycle of its foliage, if that's normal or not: my guess is no :-P

I have been wanting to grow some theabroma cacao as well as acai. Need to do some research and see if I can grow cacao inside though as my ceiling is only so high.

That's an excellent pdf, i downloaded that and saved it to my computer. I didn't see any mention of my particular issue(and i don't mean to sidetrack the thread to my plant, but might also be helpful for you). The yellow/discoloring of leaves that i'm getting. Oldest leaves only. I fertilize about once a month, or once every other month with a citrus fertilizer at the bottle's recommended 1TBLS per gallon of water. Not sure if there are any micronutrients in this fert though. Tony have you come across anything related to yellowing/discolored leaves.

Yes, Orton Englehart, who named the Creamhart avocado and earlier invented the impact sprinkler. Wish we could find Creamhart.

I brought seeds back from Hilo in 2007. I grew four plants. In 2008 I lost all four and decided not to grow stuff that won't make it here. Tony, you get way more heat than we do here. The climate in Santa Barbara sounds great but it never really warms up and is a damp cold. Good luck!

Posting this up just for reference. This is the discoloration i'm getting on the oldest of the cacao leaves. At the moment the soil is actually very dry which could be the culprit, i haven't had a chance to water it, too many plants lol. Poor thing.

Hey Tony was it outside this winter? If so what is the lowest temperature you guys had down there? We got a few cold snaps up here, it was a little weird, I think we had one night of 26.

When I start growing them I think I am going to make some clones of the different varieties (if I can find them), put them outside and see how they do. You never know, one might be able to take a little cooler, or hotter weather. Look what we have done in this community with bananas. It may also be spot on and they will simply die.

Keep us updated, I am very interested to see how they do in California even in a green house.

I thought this might help out Tony. It shows the damage and kill temperatures for theobroma cacao.

Found the first ever flower bud on any of my cacao the other day.

Not sure why it has a bud out with the new growth. Maybe cause the tree is only about 3 feet tall, and all there is not any "really" old growth. The one at over 6 feet tall hasn't shown anything yet.
