I found banana debris piled along the road. I salvaged a corm about 3/4 the size of a football. I planted it around 12-29-11. The plants broke through the soil on 1-22-12. Today, 2.5 weeks later, the plants are 18" tall. I don't know what variety of bananas they are. If they keep growing so fast, it seems that they'll crowd one another. Should I separate them? How, they both originate from the same corm? When should I separate them? I plan to plant at least one in the ground when the weather warms.

They look like bananas to me. It's better to wait and leave them together until you are ready to plant them in the ground, at that point just take the whole thing out of the pot and cut it in half through the soil and plant each half on it's own or pot one and plant one.
