Was doing a search for growers that would ship to Canada and came across Oasis Tropical Plants and Trees. Has anyone had purchased from them. A search online revealed very little although the site looks well established.

Hello, I did order 2 plants from them off ebay. Their communication is great. I haven't received them yet so not sure how the plants will be.
I am new to growing bananas, these will be my first 2 plants.
The only thing I 'know' about them is that their photo of a "Hua Moa" is not even close.

I have bought a bunch of plants from him a few months ago off ebay. They are not bad sized plants and are doing well. I hope I got the bananas that I wanted. People here got me a little scared b/c they say many plants are mislabled from many nurseries lol. But if I got what I wanted I will be very happy.

I have bought many tropical plants off of them for years, the owner Dr. Mike Taylor is very knowledgable about almost all plants, and especially banana plants. When I had questions months later about some plants he replied fast and helped me out a bunch. They did have their website hacked about a year or so ago and I know they were in the middle of re-building it. That is probably where the picture went bad. The banana plants I did buy are always very big, clean and very healthy. I did have 2 of them die about a month later or so after getting them, but he sent me 2 for the replacements and 2 extra, and let me pick the ones I wanted. I guess 2 isnt too bad after ordering more than 30 or so. They do stand behind their products, so that does mean something. I also ordered a bunch of citrus trees from them and all are doing well after years.
Give them a try, see what you think. Both myself and many of my friends and fellow banana nuts are real happy with them. Happy growing and have a great day!!!!

They are a small family business and I know they have a few greenhouses in the U.S., one is in Florida and another one I know of is in Lower Michigan. They grow different tropicals at each location I believe.

As I understand the bananas come here from michigan. But owner says they have a few greenhouse located around.
Edit: Someone beat me to the answer. So far I am really happy with the plants. If they die, it will be my fault. Only one that I am struggling with is SUMATRAN X CROSS/GRAN NAIN. It was in good shape when i got it but not throwing up leaves. The rest have thrown up leaves and are doing well.
Had their website hacked a year or so ago? That's probably where the picture went bad?!? Nawwww, I don't buy that. That's plenty of time to check the site, and fix any probs. If they don't have a photo of that type, they should just say so and not try to fool people by putting something else in that spot, or make an offer to someone else for the use of their photo.

Thanks everyone... I think when the weather improves here in the snowy interior of BC and the plants can be safely shipped we're gonna get a bunch from OASIS!
Everything I've read really seems geared at helping customers have a positive experience... important to me when you're paying $50+ shipping.
Cheers all...

Their picture for 'Dwarf Cavendish' is from the banana wiki page for 'High Color Mini'.
Oasis's 'Dwarf Cavendish': DWARF CAVENDISH BANANA PLANT - 2 SIZES AND SAME PRICE MULTIPLE PLANT DEALS AVAILABLE (http://www.oasistropicalplantsandtrees4u.com/dwarf-cavendish-banana-plant.html)
wiki page for 'High Color Mini' (pic attributed to Flying Dutchman): Musa High Color Mini - Bananas Wiki (http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musa_High_Color_Mini)
EDIT: just noticed that Oasis has removed Flying Dutchman's pic (currently 8/25, don't know when they replaced it)

Steve,
A number of posters here operate quality nursery businesses. I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't order from Oasis; I'm just wanting to list a few member-operated sites for your consideration that you may not have discovered yet:
Northern Tropics (http://northerntropics.mybisi.com/)
Rare Bananas (http://www.rarebananas.com/)
Encanto Farms/WeBeBananas (http://encantofarms.com/orders.html)
Brian's Botanicals (http://www.briansbotanicals.net/)
Plants That Produce (http://www.plantsthatproduce.com/)
I'm a noob and have only ordered from one of them so far (Northern Tropics, positive experience), but they've all received high praise from other posters.
(Apologies to any member-owned businesses I forgot or haven't discovered yet.)

They are located here in michigan. Not sure about what it take to get over the boarder. probably send them an email. They will get back. I'm a little leary b/c I bought from them and then people say pics are not right. Oh well, even if 1/2 of them right I am happy. Plants are doing well.

Looks like it is not necessary. Here is link read more closely:
Canadian Food Inspection Agency - Frequently Asked Questions - Permit Application Process (http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/oper/appdeme.shtml)
P.S. Still a little worried about the pics not being right. guess time will tell.

I thought they come from nursery and looked over by governmental agency. Was not sure but kinda read like it was not necessary for importation. But that was why I said someone needs to look more closely at it lol. Never exported anything lol. Thanks for info.

I think it's the same since they both use the same High Color Mini pic for Dwarf Cavendish.

I am 99 percent certain they are the same. Both are based in Michigan.

I'm sorry but I can't ship to Canada. I don't think I have what it takes to get the permits, etc to do overseas and don't really have the time to find out and deal with it. Surely members here that are in Canada are getting their plants somewhere? Where are you all getting them? We need to start a new thread, I guess, I had a call from a man in Canada a couple of days ago.
