I was waiting for someone else to answer that can explain better than me .Edible varieties of bananas do not have seed you need to grow them from offshoots.
yeah found that out. but on some sites you can see at Musa acuminata (dwarf cavendish) that they grow edible fruits.

Musa acuminata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_acuminata) and Dwarf Cavendish (http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musa_Dwarf_Cavendish) are not the same plant. The former has simple genetic type "A" while the latter is a hybrid tripliod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_cultivar_groups) with AAA genetics.

Acuminata is the species banana. Cavendish, ice cream etc are cultivars whose genetics stem from Acuminata and Balbisiana species.
Acuminata fruits may well be edible, but they will have seeds if they are pollinated, otherwise the fruits will not mature, but drop off.
