View Full Version : Waking up...in the middle of winter??

I thought my banana plants were still dormant. Apparently not. Today I discovered that my two Not Ice Creams had made lots of progress on the leaves they were pushing out. Looks like this warm snap is getting them to wake up. Day temps have been in the 70s to low 80s and night temps have been in high 40s to mid 50s, which is very unusual for January. This warmth has been going on for almost a week and a half now. Unfortunately, this will be short-lived, as over the next few days the temps will begin to drop. By next week night temps will be in the mid 40s again. Has anyone else in SoCal been seeing any of their plants wake up?

I guess I'm not alone then. My Mysore isn't budging. I guess it's trying to expand it's root system first since it was just repotted.

I just looked at some weather history in my area, and right now conditions are pretty much ideal for growing bananas here. Last night's low was just 63.4 degrees!

Wow....well good luck with that. Mine will probably fall back to sleep soon if they haven't already, things are cooling down again.

My bananas are waking up indoors, but definitely too cold over here for any of them to show signs of life outdoors. However, the daffodils are coming up and the tree buds are getting bigger. Everything is 2 months ahead so far because of the nice weather!
