In the nursery trade it is cultivated as an ornamental for both indoor and outdoors. As such, you can expect the plant to have been on a steady diet of systemic pesticides. I would not eat the fruit until 3 years have passed. On the other hand, that might not be a problem because it can take 5 to 10 years.

Some more common names include:

cut-leaf-philodendron – English
fruit-salad-plant – English
Mexican-breadfruit – English
monstera – English, Swedish
Swiss-cheese-plant – English
cériman – French
Philodendron – German
banana-de-macaco – Portuguese
banana-do-brejo – Portuguese (Brazil)
banana-do-mato – Portuguese (Brazil)
harpón – Spanish
piñanona monstera – Spanish

It can be grown from the seeds found in the fruit pretty easily. Seeds are more reliable than transplants in my experience. I have done both and would not bother with transplants again. You may wish to look for fruit in an Asian grocery or Latin American grocery store that focuses on Central American cultures. Or, you could simply do a Net search for "seeds" and "monstera deliciosa".

BTW, if you are in MD, this plant will not survive outside unless you take MUCH care to protect from frost. It runs a long way and is wide for a greenhouse unless the greenhouse is big.

Well I was talking about the fruit as a source for seeds but it does taste good too. How did you get it to grow so big in Maryland when the plant can be so cold sensitive?

Yes, seed'z would work but, Im a true blue American and "I want It now!!!!"

All I had was a big ass pot. Two man and a small boy to pull it out for the summer and bring It In for the winter. It'z a hard plant In my mind.
