I'd like to know what vegetables or edible fruit trees you planted this winter? This would give me an idea what other edible plants I can grow in cold area; I'm zone 8a. So far, my green-mustard or was it called mustard-green, bakchoy, and cabbage, are doing well in the cold; the good thing about the cold, I could say bye bye green worms and I don't have to use bug spray stuff.

I'm going to plant Broad Windsor Fava Beans this year. First time growing any sort of Fava Bean.

Swiss Chard is a great winter veggie, depending on how low you drop, and so is Kale. Here is my "Bright Lights" swiss chard that I'm growing from seed...

Both are great for containers or the garden. One year I even grew them in a frosty cold sunporch and they thrived!

Along with the Fava I'll sow Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard, Arugula, Cosmic Purple, Atomic Red, and little Fingers Carrots. I think I'll sow some Sparkler Radish too.

For those of us not in Zone 10 or 11 winter planting is quite different eh, iz? I'm not putting anything new outside. I have some Rosemary that does well but it is established. I am not even going with cabbage or other greens outside this year with the exception of some garlic. I have some stuff growing inside that is doing well so far:

My Swiss chard (I might move this outside when it gets too large for the AeroGarden) it will depend on the weather at that time.

Red leaf lettuce that will stay small enough to be in all winter long:

Have also started Watermelon and Cantaloupe:

Hmm. Swiss Chard and Kale, that's a good idea.

momoese: I'm not familiar with Arugula, Cosmic Purple, Atomic Red, and little Fingers Carrots; I will have to research that.

Jananas Bananas: I have 3- 1 ft dwarf Pomegranate growing too in pot. Too afraid to take them outside. Watermelon and Cantaloupe for winter? That's new for me.

I love veg.

I am growing cukes and tomatoes under grow lights inside. They are doing really well! I am actually comparing a couple of mycorrhyzae supplements with the tomatoes.
