IMO, this is probably John Chater's best pomegranate variety, at least for warm/hot valley's of California. My crop production was light this year and very late. I finally picked this one today and the taste was great (finally)!

I also picked my first fruits of Chater's 'Rosamia' yesterday. The fruits were somewhat small but pretty good.

It's a sweet/tart variety, a little less tart than, say, Wonderful. Seeds are medium hard, about like Wonderful. I only have one tree of this variety and wish I had more.

By the way, some folks will see this variety in retail nurseries but under a different name. Dave Wilson Nursery, a wholesale nursery supplying the trade, markets this as "Sharp Velvet".

Sounds like you should take some winter cuttings :08:

I already do that but don't really have room for more. I've got 130 trees in the ground already and another dozen or so in pots needed a spot. If my list is correct, I've got 57 varieties. I might have last a couple as well as added a couple since updating it.

I feel for you! LOL

I have the same problem but with multiple plants:

30 citrus trees
11 banana mats plus too many pots
50+ blueberries and numerous pots
4 fig trees
4 pomegranites
plus peaches, plums, Quinces and persimmons

I currently have four more citrus trees on order and ten muscadine vines.

I must be sick!!!!!!!!!

Great looking Pom Harvey! I want to try more varieties. thanks for the info about the Dave Wilson Nursery. I wonder why they market it under a different name, it make things more difficult.

Luke, they do it all for marketing. For instance, 'Crab' is called "Red Silk" which most would agree is a nicer sounding name for a fruit. They use names associated with fabrics for most of the various pomegranates they market.

If you have much room, you might want to contact Dr. Bill Castle. Check out his web site at Citrus - UF/IFAS Extension: Solutions for Your Life (http://www.crec.ifas.ufl.edu/extension/pomegranates/) and check out the link for "Available plants". :) I don't have any idea of what level of participation is required to be eligible.
