Very nice! That Mysore doesn't look like my Mysore though.
I was wondering about that. From what I know Mysores have some reddish coloring on the pseudostem and midribs. Maybe Kazercat's is a little older than the average pup, or showing genetic adjustment to its environment? It does look very healthy either way.
I have a banana myself that I'm hoping is a Mysore :D

that's what it was sent to me as. A few people are asking that. It does have a lot of red on the ridribs as the leaves get older but I guess lots of bananas do. not very much on the p-stem, what could it be?

well it turns out my "Mysore" can't really be a Mysore. Not nearly enough red on the leaves/p-stem. looking more like Misi Luki- the plant is starting to get black spots on the p-stem>> does Misi Luki do that?

It's definitely a plus when the plants that pop up in your yard from the neighbour's bear fruit too lol. And I haven't ever seen them in any of the garden shops I frequent, but I did a google search (which is quite handy; thanks for the idea) and apparently they need at least a month of chill hours so I don't think they'll hold up here since we usually don't drop below the 60s in winter.
It wasn't a total loss though, since I found out figs, grapes and strawberries only need about a week, so I might be able to get away with growing those here. It'd definitely be cool to try those out :D
The link to the website I got the chill info from is below. I have no experience with gardening in frost areas so I don't know if it's accurate or not lol

Nice; do you think it will fruit this year?
I honestly would love for it too but maybe now that it pupped maybe much closer to fruiting? I hope It will cut back on the high being in a container. The only thing im curious about- The pup is totally pinkish/red right now you can see a bit starting in that pic I will post another I wanna make sure it really is an orinoco.
Iunepeace
06-18-2012, 01:29 PM
I can imagine you would lol. I'm sharing that same hopeful anticipation with one of my bananas that I first thought was an Orinoco but now am thinking is a Pisang Mas (Ladyfinger/Sucrier/Sugar/etc). It should bloom at a much shorter height in a container so hopefully it is closer to fruiting, and in some varieties puppage is an indicator of eminent flowering.
I'm not familiar enough with Orinoco to say whether or not its pups common show reddish coloring (if they do then they outgrow it) but that's definitely the case on my unconfirmed Ladyfinger so it does happen with some varieties. I look forward to the pic.

Oh it's REALLY red! lol I was originally thinking the other picture you posted was an up to date one.
It's actually a pretty little thing. And as you can see from its parent, it does eventually lose the green coloring, at least in the pseudostem. I still don't know whether this denotes the banana to be an Orinoco or non-Orinoco, but what a proud papa you must be! :D

Mine are just parked here for the winter. They were too small to pull from the ground and let go dormant over winter, so, I'm letting them grow it out. They're kinda small but for one of them at the moment. Most of my nanners are indoors because our greenhouse roof was torn off, so, all the outdoor subtropicals and tropicals are waiting in here til the greenhouse is fixed and our new attached one is built. If I left them out, the rain would cause rot and decay.

Looking good, couple more weeks and spring will be here! This is one of my favourite threads, always waiting for u to update since we are so close. Are u home for the summer this year Matt? If so u will have to keep us up to date. Love your palms, my washy is just pushing its first non-strap leaves finally, and I have a few trachys not far behind. What is the other palm u have on the table in the pic from March 2nd? Keep posting updates when u can.

Man that DC is looking pretty close. Your washy looks like its starting to push spears pretty good as well. Mine is still pretty slow, but with this heat hopefully things will speed up. My GN/DC looked like it might have been pushing up a pre preflag on the weekend but I would prefer a leaf or two more first. But like abnshrek said: "3 hands in spring/summer is better than 10 in the fall for us up north."

should I remove the damaged leaves? will that help the plant?
Hammocked Banana
07-09-2014, 08:55 AM
Removing those sunburnt leaves wont help the plant, just make it look a little nicer. There is still some photosynthetic tissue left in those leaves so leaving them there will actually probably help the plant a bit. I always find once there are a few nice new leaves the plant will take off and then drop those leaves on its own.
Anyway we can get some id's on the group photos? Hows your DF?

Looking good! (Is that a puddle of water that one on the left in the first photo's in?)
What Brady said; there's still a lot of green in those damaged leaves so the plant is still using them to make food. If you don't want to look at them you can take them off; up to you. Either way your bananas are coming along nicely; thanks for the update :D

First full shot of the manzano in a long time. I had it out for a few days in April and now we're having some scary cold. let's just say the highs are below 50F for the next week!https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4173/33689251203_5ce6caf6d8_z.jpg

Pisang ceylon and the dwarf cavendish were planted in the ground a few weeks ago. All are growing very fast and both are sending up pups now. Inside the GH it's mostly bananas, citrus and succulent like plants. When they start to run out of room I'll just chop them back.
Here's a tease

Manzano July 7
I had it in the GH for 2 weeks until the weather warmed up. Finally now out for good. I noticed it's really leaning now (towards the camera) I will have to make a U support. I don't want to take any chances with the summer storms we get. Maybe a re pot this year? yikes!! Thanks for looking

Hey everyone, all the bananas were dug up at the end of Dec. Sadly they all suffered cold damage so they had to be cut back. There were three holland papayas that were doing so well until December, couldn't believe that and then of course the cold took em out.
This is the dwarf cavendish that had the biggest stem.
All trimmed up and ready to go! 01/20/18
