I was hoping that the banana plants growth would slow down while I try to put up a small greenhouse. To my surprise bananas are growing so I have to scramble to try to get this back outside in a greenhouse. Can anyone identify this variety at this stage. :woohoonaner: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9ylwDZ33zU)
From what I have learned: I'd cut off the old leaves and maybe leave the young-leaf in. I'm not too sure of the survival of the young fruit, but for an extra boost, I'd cut off the red heart now so the mother can focus in making the young fruit larger instead of trying to make the red heart bloom more. Since the mother is in shock, the less leaves it has, the better it will have stored energy; but once the fruits are done, don't be sad about loosing the mother( A banana plant .. produce a bunch of bananas. Then the mother plant dies. But around the base of it are many suckers, little baby plants. Did you know, the young heart is considered as a vegetable?

That's pretty cool :)
How's it doing? Is it still holding the bananas?

Hi, The bananas are still on but there is only one leaf. The trunk looks great. I just occasionally watered the roots that I have in a plastic bag. It looks like I can take it outside with the weather predictions for the next two weeks having lows in the 40's.

Sounds like you might have a chance to ripen and eat some bananas this spring! :08:
Any luck on ID'ing it yet?
