It's supposed to rain tomorrow, and it already rained a bit today. Should I put something like a tarp around my plants to prevent them from rotting? As of now I just added more mulch.

Less mulch in cold weather = less rotting. I learned the hard way one year.

No more mulch then. There's probably around 2-3 inches of mulch around my plants now. Should I remove the mulch? Should I put a tarp around the base of the plants during rain?

I had about 4" of mulch during the "arctic blast" in 07. Come spring the whole garden was black slime under the mulch. I had to remove a LOT of mulch, slime and soil. Huge mess!

The banana plants like the rain provided the temperatures don't dip below 45 degrees. Mulch is a great idea provided your planter bed drains. I agree with momoese, if the mulch makes your soil stay soggy then time to adopt another plan.

momoese,
That was a diaster for you...argeeee!
Thing is either to uproot and store frostfree or light mulch. If you pot them up you can let them play out on sunny days. If you insiste on leaving in the ground then use the leaves as a mulch.
Some days can be nice and sunny in winter.

Now you won't need to water for a couple weeks

I guess I'll tarp it over then so the sprinklers don't water it.

Turn off the timer
Problem is there are other plants around it that need the sprinkler.

I have grass and will will not water again for two weeks and if it rains again even longer. You be surprised how many sprinklers I see going when it's raining .Very easy most timers have a rain off switch. Just turn the dial.If it doesn't rain again for a week or so turn the dial back to auto:08:
