One of the varieties I'm looking into is Praying Hands. How much wind can it take before it gets blown over? I know the p-stem is pretty thick, so that's good. The spot I'm thinking of putting it in is partly protected from the wind, but not completely.

It all depends on how well he root system has developed.

Well, if I'm going to plant it next spring, it should have a well-developed root system by next fall, shouldn't it? I'm planning on putting it in an area surrounded by concrete which has soil under it. Wouldn't the roots spread under the concrete?

For me in my heavy clay soil. In the winter some roots would die off,and the plant needed staking.Once the weather warmed the roots would grow again and I could remove the stake.I think if you leave the pups on and get a large mat going you will be okay. Also planting deeper will help.

Thanks. I actually looked up the soil type in my area and it's called Balcom sandy clay loam. It says on the USDA site that it's a well draining soil. But I'm going to amend the soil anyways. Will I be ok if I only maintain a few plants in the mat so I get the best fruit production?

I guess if it's well draining you won't have any problems.Nothing is automatic try and see what happens

It can take wind. It cannot take "the Wind".

It's going to be put in a semi-sheltered spot that has significantly less wind than exposed spots, so I think it should be good.
