My velutina bloomed about a month or so ago. Id like to collect the seeds from it and its now Nov in Ohio and it has been hit with 4 or so frosts so i don't know how long it will be alive. Just wandering how long they usually take to ripen or at least old enough to collect the seeds. I plan on testing it and trying to overwinter it in the ground here so it will be outside all winter.

Unfortunately I can not answer your question... but I had to come and post how envious I am that someone in Ohio has a flowering banana.

Good work :woohoonaner:

Thanks....Musa velutina is easy to grow. I grew this one from seed! I got the seed free from a member here(austin01) and was hoping to get seed from mine so I could give it away to members here also. They sprouted June last year and bloomed in September this year. So if you can find a plant now and plant it in the spring you should be able to get one to flower too.
