View Full Version : I give up...

I used to be able to post pictures within a post directly from my photobucket account, but now when I do, the preview shows the picture, but when I post it, a link shows up. So, I tried to download the pictures onto my gallery on here and then tried to copy and paste it and get the same... I am in no way computer savvy, so I suppose I will just give up and not even try to post pictures on here anymore. Just not worth the trouble. What happened to the old way we used to post pics on here and why make it more difficult. Sorry, just don't understand...:(

Thats a photobucket issue, not an issue with our site. We didn't change anything. It's photobucket who does not allow you to share your images around the web, its called "hotlinking" and they don't allow you to hotlink from popular websites. They do that to save their bandwidth. This is why we always encourage you to use the photo gallery that we have, to avoid that problem.

Here's a thread where it was discussed last year: http://www.bananas.org/f5/pics-disappearing-thread-12002.html

It works for me. Here is a screen shot of my thumbnail on Photobucket. When I hover over the thumbnail photo a drop down opens with options. I click on the "IMG code" link, then copy and past it directly to my post here just like I did for this post.

Jarred, don't understand because I have no problem posting pictures to my threads on any other site that I visit...

All I am seeing on your post is a link to a photobucket picture that I have to click on to see it...

Randy,
The two easiest methods are to copy and past either the image code or the html code directly into the editing window of your post.
Since I don't own a photobucket account, I'm using someone else's photo here to show you. I pulled up some shared photobucket cosmos picutres on my computer. Each picture has EMAIL AND IM, DIRECT LINK, HTML CODE, and IMAGE CODE associated with them; you can seem them when your mouse is on the picture. And here are the results:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j167/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg
<a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/cosmos bright lights/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg?o=7" target="_blank"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j167/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg" border="0"></a>
The photos appear the same in my post either way. However, I do know, with the html code method, I can actually display this picture in a different size, alignment, etc. by adding more html codes to it.
The third method is to click the "INSERT IMAGE" icon, a popup winow will ask you to "PLEASE ENTER THE URL OF YOUR IMAGE". You then copy and paste the DIRECT LINK into the popup window and it should work for you. The DIRECT LINK I used here is “http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j167/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg.” but without the double quotes. The result is as follows:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j167/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg
Or you can click the INSERT LINK icon, a popup widow will ask you to "PLEASE ENTER THE URL OF YOUR LINK." Copy and paste the HTML CODE of your photobucket photos into the popup window. And here is the result.
<a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/cosmos bright lights/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg?o=7" target="_blank"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j167/graze_photos/4432b474.jpg" border="0"></a>
Let me know if I explain clearly or not. There are always better ways to explain things. Other folks in the org may have better ways to post photos, too. Thanks!

John, do the pics show up or do they appear as a link? When I created the thread you are referring to the pictures showed up in the post, but when I submitted it, the pics showed up as links to me. I created the thread at work on my desktop and when I look at it at home on my laptop, the pictures show up as links on both. Really getting confused!?!?!?

Rae, Method #3 that you mentioned in your above post is the way I used to always post pictures directly into my posts, and the way I did in my overwintering pics in the cold hardy banana space.
I will try it again here:
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/randy4ut/2011%20October%20around%20the%20yard/2011Octoberaroundtheyard011.jpg
The picture is showing up while I am creating this. Now I will submit it and see what happens.....
Had to get back into this post with "edit" to say that when I submitted, the picture showed up as a link...

Here is my attempt using the "insert link", Rae...

The first time I submitted this, I could see the picture, but when I added some more text and saved it, the picture turned back to a link... I then got back into this post to add this message and it is still a link... AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

I see the pics Randy. Something weird going on with your browser or B.org settings would be my guess.

Randy, click on USER CP, then click Edit Options and make sure "Show Images (including attached images and images in code)" is checked.
It should look like this:

What do you see when you click on the PREVIEW POST button? You should see your picture in the preview mode or not?

Randy,
Try this:
When you are editing you post, if you have a picture (not a link) to be displayed, you can manually type in , followed by the address/url of your photo, and then . The word IMG can be in either upper case or lower case, but make sure you have the open and closed SQUARE brackets and don't forget the forward slash.
Here is an example using your photo:

That's odd Deb, I never do anything but copy and paste the "IMG" link they provide under the thumbnail pic.

OK so maybe I was wrong about the hotlinking issue. There are some other photo hosting sites that dont let you hotlink. Either that or photobucket changed their rules and let you do it now. Maybe it was imageshack that I was thinking of who doesn't let you hotlink...

Do you think maybe it might be our browsers and the settings that causes things to get messed up?

Idk, maybe you need to change some settings on your User CP too?
When you copy the link exactly where do you copy it from?
When you paste it are you just pasting it in the reply box where you type or in the url thing above the box?

I copy the IMG code at photobucket, then over here after I click on 'insert image' and click paste. It comes up with [img] on each end and if I don't get rid of that, all I'll get is a little box with an x in it when I preview it.
I did check my CP user section and I'm ok there..

That is what the problem is. Just paste the IMG code directly into the big box where you type your reply. No need to click the "insert image" button. :2738:
