I'm jealous!
Wish my little cavendish would continue to grow this winter, but mine are still small.
Next season will be glorious!

That's awesome though!

You should probably keep them as followers so that you can get more bananas the following year. But you can dig them up and transplant them if you want when they get big enough. If any of them are water pups get rid of them. The one in the picture looks like a sword pup to me though.

Im not sure how to tell the difference between a sword and a water! and which picture looks like the sword? those are two different trees!

Here is an example of the huge difference in root development and corm size between water and sword suckers. Both are Goldfinger pups removed at the same time from the same parent plant.

They both look like sword pups. You can tell because they have thin leaves. Water pups will have full leaves and look like little mini banana plants. As you can see from Jon's picture and explanation here, there's a huge difference.

Why should we get rid of water pups ?:03:

Well I guess it depends on how you see it. You could separate them and keep them as ornamentals. But if it's bananas you're after, shouldn't you separate them? In my case, I'm going to get rid of them.

There are many very wise and experienced people on here on this forum that have said once a water pup grows some you cannot tell the difference. Unless you have a need to be selective why throw it away? I don't throw mine away!!! They are actually the better looking of the babies anyway. To each his own.

Water suckers and sword suckers: after transplanting into a 5+ gallon pots and feeding them through irrigation for 3 months ... mine are indistiguishable. I am using 100ppm nitrogen, 25ppm phosphate, and 150ppm potash.

I think this is the best example of all the pictures I have seen!

Yes water suckers are the better looking.
