I have am trying a few different varieties of bananas in my zone 8b/9a climate. What do you think I should do with the following.... dig them up and put them in the greenhouse over the winter, or leave them in the ground? Our winters are cool and wet and the bananas are in a sandy loam.

1) Saba
2) Yunnanensis
3) Sikkimensis
4) Thai black
5) Ice cream

I have a bunch of basjoo's that I am going to leave in the ground over the winter.

Thanks! Jeff

I'm not a pro at all, but I can give you a couple pointers from what I've read.
How large are these plants and how old?
They recommend the plant to be over 4 ft and over 2 yrs old to be able to withstand a full winter properly.

But, if you think they will do fine outdoors in the cold, just make sure to give them some protection as is heavy mulch and maybe even covered by tarp, and a cone of paper of some sort.

I honestly don't know how cold it gets there.

Also, if it is planted over a ft deep that helps as well.

I say dig up the yunnanensis and the saba. The rest I'll probably have for sale again in the spring.....lol...
