Having enjoyed these in chinese cusine many times, I just found out that they can be grown at home. We want to try this and probably wiil but thought that seeking as much info as possible we may have good succss.
Has anyone grown these? Searched the net and got a lot of info but there is still some missing. We live in zone 9b and have a long enough growing season but it is almost over now for something like this and would like to try them now. Has anyone grown these inside? Thanks

Never grown them but we use them in holiday stuffing mixes for turkey and in Rumaki. Yum!

Probably not an issue if you have a clean plant and growing environment, but I recalled a reason not to eat fresh (native) water chestnuts from a college parasitology class- you can get fasciolopsiasis (an intestinal fluke) from eating raw ones in their native habitat, after that class there were a number of things I wouldn't be inclined to eat/do anymore... just bananas for me! :)

Clean water in containers should keep us out of trouble. Most of what we grow is done organically so these will get the same treatment. Thanks for the info though. One can never be too careful.
