View Full Version : Why does my banana bleed water on the top of pseudostem.?
I use a clean napkin to dab off the water tear from the pseudostem. The trunk was cut 3 days ago because the top trunk(pseudostem) had leaf rots(mushy black) in the center so I cut it until the mushy black area is gone. But its weird that it continues to bleed water. What is that mean? I do not water the corm, only the edge of the pot so it does not get too much water; it was watered 3 days ago and I do not water until it is about an inch dry from the top pot. The center young leaf is pushing up again; that is good. About a week ago, there was a shift temperature change from an average 107 degree down to 80 during the day. I am starting to bring it inside at night since the temperature dropped by 20 degrees. I'm assuming it is temperature shock maybe since its a little cooler now? When I see water bleed, the drying with napkin seems to help. Anyone ever encounter similar situation?

I asked a similar question when I started out about my banana leaves. Sunfish posted this link.

It could be something similar, I don't know. I would guess that it is but maybe wait till a senior member chimes in on the subject to ease your mind.

I think it's because you're watching it too closely for problems....lol... You probably need to take up something else temporarily for a hobby for a week or two and then it'll be fine.

:nanadrink: !!!
Yep, 100% perfectly normal.
I have some cacti here that I like to watch grow when I get itching for something to happen.
Better than watching paint dry... ;)

In three days it should of sealed up.Maybe cut off the water and see what happens. I cut this one 3 days ago and it pretty much healed over.

It simply bleeds the sap, which otherwise would have gone up into the section, which you cut off :)
As soon as your banana realizes, that the top has gone, it will quit trying to feed it.
