It's that time again. Still the most reliable fruit producer in the yard.

It looks great. How old is it?

The mat is 6 years old. Has produced a big bunch every year - one year after planting. Last year the fruit came in too late and the Dec frost did in the bunch only half filled in. Mat has produced over 30 pups so far.

And the taste is great. Being thin skinned it has to be cut down green when filled in and hung to ripen. Many fingers will still split skins. Just peel and freeze.

The Manzano (real-deal variety) is the other great tasting guy I have. This will be my first major replacement year. Any variety that doesn't measure up taste-wise will be removed entirely. New varieties coming in soon.

Hey,
I'm potting up all my pups for the winter. Got pretty cold last year and am not sure how the outside one's will do. Keep in touch and this spring I'll give you a couple of pups.

Tony ---- Lowest night temps so far -- low 60's. Currently low 70's which is average.

BTW did anyone spot the Black Jungle Butter Bean runners invading the Gfinger bunch in my first pic. It got really bad later on before I got the ladder and cleared them out.

Dan I did see that and wondered if that was BJBB. I'll keep them away from my bananas.

I was just eating a Orinoco I picked 11/1/11 from my bunch that bloomed 6/1/11. It was very firm with pleasant taste. It needed another week to really be good.
