My wife and I just bought 8 acres of land just north of Hilo on the Big Island in Hawaii.

This giant mat of Apple bananas is on the property.

Thought some of you might want to see what banana plants do with 150 inches of rain a year and year round warmth.

Beautiful! The many rivers flowing out from Mauna Kea should insure no lack of water. Those naners need a backhoe - bad.

Do you plan on thinning out the mats - or remove and start over?

Aloha,

Very cool. We will be neighbors soon. I'm relocating just above Kona in June 2012. I look forward to be able to grow plants I can't here in Santa Barbara. Congratulations on your property!
