The last time we went to the Falls just for the day, as it's only a of couple hours from London. Last Tuesday we went back and stayed for a week!!!
Omg I went up in a helicopter, 675 feet above the Falls!!!
Here's one like the one we were in, as it was taking off...

Plus too, I requested a seat in the front beside the pilot! :goteam:
It was a fabulously wonderful and invigorating experience...the # 1 best thrill of my life. :08:
Here are the shots I was able to get...

The large window in front of my seat went right to the floor, as did the one beside me also. The views were spectacular...

That must have been thrilling! Did you get any cool shots of the pilot doing his job?

It was a frigging blast, Mitchel! A must do, for anyone who visits the Falls.
The pilot was shocked I requested a seat up front with him and said not many women do. I wasn't going to miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity like that, and couldn't wait to get up front. There was even a window at my feet...you can see them in the pics. I was not afraid at all and enjoyed every moment.
Well I was a bit shy about snapping shots of the pilot because they made you watch a video before you went up, about not disturbing the pilot or touching him or the controls. I was nervous about sticking a camera in his face. At one point my camera strap fell on his arm and I panicked and pulled it away. He laughed though and told me not to worry. He was a man in his 60's from Australia. They've been giving flying tours over the Falls for 45 years!
Oh how exciting it truly was. :goteam: I want to do it one more time. My mom was completely awestruck!
More pics soon but here's one I got through our car window while driving up the Falls strip...

Did you ever get the feeling that it's not quite as huge as you previously thought? I'm talking about the size of the falls, not my head.

Some very disturbing and unfortunate news that happened while we were visiting, was that a Japanese female student who went to school in Niagara Falls, fell over the Falls and died!
It was horrible news and they found her body at the bottom just a few days later. :( They also found half of a man's body too.
Apparently, the Japanese girl climbed over the railing, disobeying the signs everywhere that read "Keep Back...Do Not Climb Rails. DANGER". Her boyfriend was trying to get a picture of her and she was holding onto an umbrella which some people do to shield themselves from the mist. It was a windy evening and the wind lifted her up and over!!! She was so panicked, she had no time to realize she should let go of the umbrella.
Her parents flew in from Japan. How devastating for all of them. I wish people would just realize that the signs are there for a reason and not to mess around. Some of the locals were telling us that it was astounding how many tourists will climb over the rails even with their babies in hand, bouncing them around and holding them up in the air!!!!!!
A very sad part of our trip and we sure feel very badly for the girl who lost her life so unnecessarily.

Looks can be deceiving, Mitchel....sorry I missed your post before. ;)
My pictures don't really capture the vastness of the Falls. When you're right down and practically in the Falls, on the Maid of the Mist boat, you can really get a sense of just how massively huge they truly are. The mist hides a lot from above. Being in the helicopter though, made everything seem miniature.
The Horseshoe Falls belong to Canada. This pic shows some Americans looking at their Bridal Veil Falls...

I agree Mitchel, but I just still feel bad about it. I wish she'd had more respect for the signs that were obviously not exaggerating the truth when they read "DANGER". I hope a lot of people learn from her death and realize that they need to keep back.
Because of the mist, if the sun is shining, there's usually always a rainbow in sight. Here's one I caught while we were there...
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hollyberrylady08/3rd%20album/IMG_0314.jpg
We also went through some of the haunted houses and my mom nearly ducked out of one of the chicken exits a dozen times! :ha:
We even caught a few 4-D movies (like 3-D but even better!) where you're in seats that move and they make you feel like you're really there. We saw the Glacier Run and some kind of dinosaur show that was actually kind of scary. It was like the dinosaurs were running after you and trying to get you. You wore glasses for the 3-D effect. We also saw one where you were skating down icy slopes.
The best movie of all though was the one we saw at the Imax theatre, about the history and lengend of Niagara Falls. It was educational and the pictures were spectacular. A must see. :goteam:
It told about the man who walked over a tightrope across the Falls and the schoolteacher who went over the Falls with her kitten in a barrel, and survived! Also about the father and his two children who had boat problems and the father and son went over, but only the boy survived because he had a life jacket. The girl was spared, as someone managed to catch her before she could fall over. It told about how the native Indians found the Falls first but white people came and took over. It was an amazing movie. :lurk:
We also went through the wax museum of celebrities. I got some shots that I'll load soon...
