Hi all:
Nice to meet you all. Excited about being here. Not great at keeping up with postings.

I love gardening and thus the name GardenBee. It gives me peace and exercise, so every season I am growing vegetables, or salads.

My Banana plants are doing fine after they were damaged with the frost. I had brought them indoors but they suffered severely from root rot. But now they are doing beautifully. I have two varieties: The Misi Luki (butter banana as known in India), and the other I think is an ornamental type. I have enclosed two photographs of the same.

I have other fruit trees as well. My apple and peaches have been disappointing, but this year I have learned a few important aspects of pruning and applying insecticide. They are about 5 years old but have all kinds of problems. My Suwannee grape vine is doing good and gave me 15 kgs of fruit which I am currently making into wine.

So that is me.

Most of my kin are from the Blacksburg area. I spent several years around Bedford, worked in Roanoke but then moved to Florida where the temps are more pleasant. Where are you located?

Was having problems with bugs, not any more. Here is my protector.

This Banana Lady, she is about 3 inches long and enjoys bugs, http://www.bananas.org/gallery/data/1897/thumbs/LadyBanana1.jpgHer mate was dinner last night but she will attract another. This is her egg growing..http://bananas.org/gallery/data/1897/thumbs/LadyBananaegg.jpg
Although she looks very dangerous, she is not a biter and will leave if disturbed. I am careful since she does remove many unwanted bugs.

You just described me, except I love tropical edible plants. Gardening is addictive! I plant all kinds of edible plants-vegetables, banana plant, fruit trees. If I can avoid going to the grocery store for fruits and vegetables, I've done my job feeding my family healthy food. I just joined about a month ago, and I can't seem to stop getting involve in this sites. This site is educational, interactive, and makes you feel your not alone. I grow tropical fruits(guava's, pamello, citrus, calamansi, santols, sweet tamarinds, star fruit, bilimbi, papayas... and veg-Moringa Oliefera(drumstick), M.Stenopetala(african drumstick), banana's, and what ever grows in gardens-purple/green okra, asparagus, sweet potato, cassava, watermelons, cilantro, peppers, Asian purple/green bean.. Ok, I got to get back to my chores.

Nice chatting..Welcome to an interactive site..

Hello everyone again:
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
For those of you in Virginia and along the East Coast, how did Irene treat you and your banana plants.
Both my tall banana plants are in shreds. That possibly means no bananas this year!.
Hope the rest of you fared very well.
Cheers,
GardenBee
