I am in California Zone 9 where we are getting 100+ degree weather. I have 1 California Gold under a 40% shade cloth and it is growing great! Nice and big with dark green leaves. I have another in full sun. It has grown very little and has smaller, yellowing leaves. But, it has produced 4 pups. The other greener CA Gold has produced none. Both plants are the same age.
So which is better? Partial Shade or Full Sun?

For your situation I'd say partial shade. Sounds like the full sun plant is stressed so it's sending pups.

I think partial shade is better. I think all the plants; even sun loving plants are struggling in this heat. In my opinion you should crush those small pups, or transplant them. They could give more stress to the mother plant. Leave only one or two pups with the mother plant, especially until it fruits. Then you will have better chance to get bigger fruit bunch.
