My first post, first pictures to share, and my first banana plant.

Hello everyone, i've been reading the forum for several weeks now but decided it would be a good idea to post some pics of my banana. I bought it from a nursery in Florida. It is supposed to be a raja puri. It has been growing pretty quickly after a slow, cold, and wet montana spring.

Good luck, one is never enough. The fever is apt to strike at any time.

Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."

thanks everyone, I do believe it does look happy and healthy.

I have a small temperature probe dangling from one leave to monitor the daily temperature in the greenhouse, and lately it has been anywhere from a high of 100 to 110 degrees F. I've noticed in the heat of the day the leaves tend to fold down a bit but usually bounce back after a good watering or as it cools in the evening.

I know that its too hot but am afraid to move it from this location because it does seem to be growing well and is protected from wind and thunderstorms. I wonder if it might do even better if the daily high temps were kept in mid to upper 80's.

Expert and novice opinions are welcome!!!

just to give an update, the latest growth rate of the plant is a new leaf about every 4-5 days.

Can anyone explain to me what a flag leaf is, and how to identify it?

The watermelon (or zuccini?) looks nice, too.

Yug, its supposed to me a golden midget watermelon that i can't get any watermelons from. i've been hand pollinating the flowers but I'm now starting to think it must need to be pollinated by a different variety. Its my first watermelon plant too. I guess i'll have to find a watermelon forum now too.:2738:

thanks for the link. i checked it out.
it looks like a flag leaf is just a regular leaf with severly stunted growth perhaps because the bloom is taking most of the energy from the plant?
