I am a new member. I would like to really be successful to fruit a banana in my yard. All of my tries before had been failures. I hope that by joining this forum I will be successful.

Welcome Benny!
Have you been trying tissue cultured plants or pups cut from existing mother plants?

Hi,
No I got the whole thing. I got the mother plant that has a flower and some corms that was already fruited and died and a few small pups on the side of the mother plant.
When I was digging these bananas, the mother plant (with flowers) was separated from the main (corm)roots and what was left were few roots and no soil was attached since they were planted in clay soil.
I don't expect that the flowers will come trough this winter but but I planted both yesterday at my yard yesterday. I expect the flowers to wither and die due to shock.
I did not removed the canvas that I wrapped the leaves with for protection from the 40 degrees low last night and while transporting them 140 miles to my house but I put a floor heater on the ground to keep the soil warm last night.
The plants' height is about 6 feet but the trunk diameter is hughed. I would say 10 inches.
I mixed ground redwood, garden soil, sand and steer manure to use as soil amendments.
Please comment. What have I done wrong or how can I improve to my maintenance to my bananas.
It's a california Gold.

A follow through:
I will put Christmas lights around the leaves and I will build today a top and side cover high enough for the leaves and the sorroundngs for protection from the wind and cold tempt.
I live in Salinas, California. Very seldom we have frost here but the tempt hoovers around the low 40's. But it can dip to 34 degrees sometimes.
I have not read any threads yet but I will ASAP.
I need to know the kind of soil the bananas want and how to take care of them.
I am sure I will read them here somewhere.
Thanks!
Benny
