It does not look like 'Manzano' at all. It looks more like a type of 'Brazilian', which can have those reds tints, but usually not so much. Leaves the male bud on, and take some photos of the whole inflorescence with the bunch and male bud in a few weeks, it will be easier to tell then.

Tony, is this one of the plants that turned black after emptying your pool (and the one you gave me a pup from)? I remember asking you if it was Ele Ele because it was so dark. I'm wondering if the coloration on the fruit is a result of that. Having seen that plant in person, it seems right for Manzano to my relatively inexperienced eye. Here are some photos from the gallery that show Manzano:

They have relatively long, narrow leaves, with long petioles, and the more recently emerged leaves are pretty erect. That matches what I recall your plant looking like. My guess is yours is Manzano with pool-water coloration. (The pup you gave me did eventually lose that black coloration in the stem, as I think yours did, too.)

Yes it is the same plant. The black coloring disappeared a long time ago. I don't think the coloring is from that even the stem of the bunch has that color and the fruit start out green with a hint of red brown and are getting darker as they grow. All the leaves stay erect and are very narrow. Now this plant is not in prime condition it does not have a good root system ever took the cold wet winter very well.I purchased it as a TC 3 years ago from

Also I believe Manzano has white flowers.

Hey Tony, that bunch photo is a beauty. Looks like you don't need a new camera after all! :ha:

But I had to stand on the last step of my 6' ladder.

OK, new camera with a telephoto lens, then. Don't want you crimping your style by falling off a ladder just to get photo!

Do you think that what goes into the soil around the plant changes any of its characteristics? I have found that many of my veggies do some strange things when introducted to different minerals. I do almost everything organic so things may be a little different and your results are of interest to me.
Thanks.
