I have been a lurker on this site for months. When I finally decided to join, my Paypal account, which I never use, had to be straightened out, so yesterday everything fell into place and I am now a member. I own a household greenhouse in SE PA. My main interests are annonas and passiflora, but I have 4 bananas. I can't remember the varieties of the interesting ones, which have been put out for the summer. There is a commercial banana in the greenhouse which is too big and destructive (of pots) to move. There is a Musa Basjoo in back of the house that was 2 stories high at one time. Unfortunately, a little over a year ago, its location became a mud room and I had to move it in the fall in pieces of root. Then when it started to grow the construction folks insisted that I cut it back. Nevertheless, it's trying to come back. It's one foot high now and ready for a second dose of fertilizer. If it makes it to the second story I'll send a photograph. I have never fruited anything but my citrus and a few minor tropical fruits. the best I did was a soursop grown from seed that I brought back from Club Med. It was born on a terrace in the Bronx, grew up in a window in Maryland and at 10 in my living room in PA flowered madly and died just before the greenhouse was constructed. It's possible that the greenhouse is not bright enough for the bananas and annonas, but one of the passionflowers has become a weed.

To Saltydad: I lived in Greenbelt after a year in ChevyChase. I was grounds chair of Greenbriar, a gigantic condo that you can see from the B-W Parkway.
