I took my 3 over wintered basjoos out of the basement today and although this my first time storing them in the basement they didn't look so good. I left about 3 ft of stalk and wraped them in newspaper, whenI unwraped them they looked dry and dead, I planted one in the ground anyway but I'm not so sure it's not dead. Any ideas on what they're supposed to look like.
Thanks

Did you store them next to the furnace?

They don't like that.

No they were 15ft away, on the floor, it's probably 65 degrees.

Was there any light? Did you water at all? 65 degrees, no light and dry air is a bad combo for any banana plant.

Musa basjoo is actually very difficult to overwinter indoors. I tried to overwinter several species and had success with all EXCEPT basjoo. For me, basjoo overwinters best in the ground (but maybe not in your zone). I also kept my Musas at about 65F in my basement with no light. I think for basjoo that is too WARM because they are not dormant at that temperature and will try to grow despite having no light or water. I think basjoo might do better in the vegetable drawer of your fridge (but that is just wild speculation).

im truely a newbie here so.. but this last yr was my 1st yr overwintering
bananas.. kept alot of cannas,EE now..but 1st with bananas..
i had great sucess with my bananas..only lost 2 ensete maurelli.. im thinking
it was i didnt give them enough air circulation.. rot.. i kept all my overwintering plants(bareroot) at around 50F in mostly dark..
this comming winter..will do same temp..but plan to use packing peanuts
around the roots..
i do spray roots of the nanners maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks.. so they dont
completely dry out..
my basjoo i kept potted.. and they have done great..and are planted in
gardens now.. yea !!!

I think I did everything wrong, I had them potted for 2 years and planed on putting them in the ground this spring, I took them out of the pots, should have left them in. Next time I'll start them out in the ground.
