Now that i have obtained a Gran Nain i wonder if anybody can tell the
differences between this one and Dwarf Cavendish. According to wiki
the pseudostem looks different but i don't see it.
The only thing i notice is that the leaves are less round but maybe this is
normal because it's young plant?

I know that Dwarf Cavendish seems to handle the cold a little better than Gran Nain, and the fruit is a smaller at least here in Florida

im the guy who edited the wiki.
ive documented a little in my pic gallery but i decided to share it on the wiki.
both gran nain and dwarf Cavendish may be stout and have some red and random dark speckles, but every gran nain i have seen has had a more distinctive red or rusty stout p stem from a pup until adult stage.. i have grown a few dwarf Cavendish and gran nain from different sources side by side and have observed a few differences. i decided to save people the head ache and confusion trying to tell them apart.
the first pic in the wiki by taylor is a perfect example of a gran nain pup.. it has dark red/rust base there are random dark speckles .. that is definitely not dwarf Cavendish.
the real difference is shown at flowering stage. ron/dutchman you are the guy that put the gran nain pic up in the wiki right?? almost all of the gran nain in the pic are de-belled.. i must have looked at that pic lots of times and never noticed the in tact flower in the right hand side of the pic. i dont know how i could have overlooked it.. but that pic is showing authentic gran nain like the ones in my pic.. i went thru the trouble of getting one to fruit myself before i noticed it. the flower is different from dwarf Cavendish. the male flowers on gran nain tend to fall off. Cavendish flowers tend to cling. look at em and tell me what u think. if anyone has found anything significant to prove otherwise let me know.http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=37593&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=37593)

Hi Ron
I have a gran nain in my gallery if you want to see what yours should look like.I don't have it any more as i lost it over the winter months. When small the plant has red splashes on top of the leaves but more spread out rather than clustered in the center as dwarf cav.P-stem isn't stocky build like Dwarf Cavendish, plus leaves are less paddled shaped.

thanks mushtaq.. the gran nain number 4 looks like a good example of gran nain. i have super dwarf Cavendish too and they look like miniature gran nain the only way i can tell them apart when they are both small is until they start growing a little. the gran nain takes off and leaves it far behind...
i have had two separate gran nain from two separate sources to flower in the same year..both had the same color and both flowers were consistent with gran nain.
again if anyone thinks they may have a more solid green gran nain .. then post it when its flowering to show that its not dwarf Cavendish.. . the only gran nain i am familiar with is the reddish/rust type. :bananas_b
here is a pic of my super dwarf cavendish it looks almost like a midget version of gran nain.. i decided to post this because i cant find any good gran nain p-stem pics to illustrate just yet. this is what you are looking for in p-stem color. almost identical

ok thanks.. ive never really noticed that with the leaves but you may be onto something.. i found the pic and i decided to re post it. this is typical for what i have seen with gran nain and dwarf Cavendish.. http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=43417&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=43417)
as far as i know there are no color mutation with gran nain where the p- stem can appear to be mostly green like with Jamaican red mutations (red-green green red) etc. .this is all ive seen and they are like night and day. ive never had a problem setting the two down and dealing with a mix-up.

Left to right. Dwarf Cavendish, Gran Nain and Super Dwarf Cavendish.
Note the leafshape of the Gran Nain. It's less round, more narrow. Maybe this will change
overtime as the Gran Nain is a bit younger, in that case it can't be used to identify a Gran Nain.

I have a DC and a Mahoi. I've taken photos of the bloom flowers mostly but might be able to show the pstem of the DC. (If I can figure out how to get my photos here. Working on it. Started a gallery of my Dwarf Cavendish just today.)
When new shoots emerge from the mother plant, I've had the sword leaf type and the round leaf. With that being said, the round type shows the coloration of the flying Dutchman's picture. I have kept both types but haven't had them long enough to tell you how long one or the other take to flower.
Thanks for all the info everyone posts here.
